<image:caption>Whitbourne Estate is predominantly organic permanent pasture. Tenants Tim and Lara Roberts graze their herds of traditional Beef Shorthorn, Saler and Hereford cattle alongside flocks of Lleyn and Hampshire sheep. Cattle are wintered inside and fed on organic forage grown on the farm. Sheep are grazed extensively and overwintered on brassica. They lamb outside in the spring. Finished stock is sold via buyers groups, direct through supermarket contracts and to the onsite restaurant, Green Cow Kitchens. For more information on our livestock and to enquire about breeding animals for sale, please contact us.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Head forester Olly and his team manage the 350 acres of diverse woodland on Whitbourne Estate. We are proud to have two registered seed stands of high quality sessile oak. We have won numerous awards for the quality of the standing timber of these magnificent trees; a credit to the management of previous generations. We retain the best oak trees for acorn seed collection. Mature trees, thinnings and coppice are harvested when “ready” and sold for timber and firewood or used for our own in-house biomass woodchip district heating system. There are over 200 separate compartments of diverse species throughout the estate. Every year the team plant as many as 5,000 new trees to ensure that clear fell areas are restocked at a sustainable level. The woods are also the backdrop for the private pheasant shoot. If you are interested in purchasing wholesale timber at roadside, or for more information about the shoot, please contact us.</image:caption>

<image:title>What we do - Sustainability - Stewardship</image:title>
<image:caption>Alongside traditional organic livestock farming, the estate participates in a number of countryside stewardship schemes. The aim of these programmes is to look after and improve the environment. We do this by conserving and restoring wildlife habitats, creating and managing woodland, keeping the character of the countryside, preserving historical features in the landscape and encouraging educational access.</image:caption>

<image:title>What we do - Sustainability - Energy & Renewables</image:title>
<image:caption>The Crumplebury complex has a district heating system, which uses woodchip generated from our own timber operations. Our coppice programme and hedgerow maintenance enables us to ensure a sustainable supply of woodchip for the coming decades. Crumplebury is one of the largest users of water on the estate. We have drilled our own borehole well to source off-grid water for this events space and hotel. We have a number of small, roof mounted solar arrays generating electricity. In the future, we plan to meet the demands of vehicle electrification with solar energy.</image:caption>

<image:caption>At Longlands we re-engage young people in learning, helping them to build confidence and self esteem through vocational training and meaningful work. Being on a real farm is very motivating for young people disengaged from mainstream education. The natural environment, combined with working with animals, is known to have a beneficial effect. Our therapeutic setting gives our students new experiences and opportunities that allow them to re-engage with their studies. Click here for more details</image:caption>
